The Appomattox Town Council held a public hearing Oct. 25 on the purchase of real property in the town of Appomattox and discussed a variety of other issues, such as worn flags and a vehicle fire near a business.
All council members were present except Deputy Mayor Timothy Garrett, who was absent to mourn a death in his family.
There was a hearty discussion — although no public comments entered — on the purchase of land, fronting on Atwood Street in Appomattox for $10,000 for use as a parking area “to serve the reasonable needs of the business located in the adjoining property.” Anne A. Kerr, Watkins Abbitt Jr. and Corinne A. Hynes are the owners. The public can view information about the property at Appomattox Town Hall, located at 210 Linden Street in Appomattox, between Monday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
