The Appomattox County Board of Supervisors (BOS) approved use of the vacant Oakville Ruritan Building to the Appomattox County Disaster & Relief Organization (ACDR) by a 4-1 vote. The building is currently used only as a voting precinct.
In an email to the Times Virginian, ACDR President Tom Adams said the ACDR plans to use the Oakville Ruritan Building for its monthly meetings and as a storage center for donated items such as clothing, food and furniture for citizens and families who find themselves in need of basic life necessities.
ACDR now meets on Thursdays at 7 p.m. at the New Geneva Christian Education Center at 222 Harrell Street. Adams said that moving its operations to the Oakville Ruritan Building would benefit the organization and the Appomattox community in multiple ways.
“The use of this building would allow us to start “roots” in a permanent place rather than using a facility that is kindly offered to us every month,” he said.
