Today at 12:10 p.m. emergency fire crews were called to the 1600-block of Police Tower Road in Appomattox for a brush fire.

The fire burned seven acres of brush, mostly made of broom straw grass, according to Appomattox Fire Chief Jonathan Garrett.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire, and no damage was done to a camper and storage building in the vicinity.

Arriving at the scene were the Appomattox, Concord and Pamplin fire departments. The fire was under control within 10 minutes.

Garrett said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but windy conditions added significantly to its spread.
