New Hope Baptist trunk or treat 2

On Saturday, New Hope Baptist Church in Vera hosted its first-ever drive-thru version of a Halloween trunk-or-treat event.

The standard trunk-or-treat event is normally held as part of the church’s fall festival, along with food, crafts, music, games and other family-friendly activities. As is par for the course with many other public gatherings nationwide in 2020, the fall festival was canceled due to COVID-19. However, the church made adjustments to ensure that the area’s children could still enjoy the holiday.

In a trunk-or-treat, automobile trunks decorated in various Halloween styles park in the church parking lot. The vehicles’ occupants hand out candy to children who walk around to each one. This year, trunks and their decorators went through the same process but handed out candy to children who drove through with an adult at the wheel.
