Future homemakers receive pins and awards

President Merlyn K. Martin, of the Appomattox Chapter Future Homemakers of America (FHA) at Appomattox High School, presented special correspondents’ pins to Cynthia Richardson and Barbara Thomas at an FHA meeting. Richardson and Thomas were named Junior correspondents for Coed Magazine, a news and feature magazine for teenagers.

Local youth skates in national championship

Mitchell Glover, an 18-year-old Appomattox youth, competed in the Special Olympics Roller Skating 1991 USA National Championships in Richmond. He earned a first-place medal for his figures routine and a fourth-place ribbon for his freestyle event.

Three break-ins near Oakville community

Three burglaries were reported over the weekend around the Oakville community. The robberies consisted of two containers with money and old silver coins missing from a home on Route 608, a color television set and two video cassette recorders from the Oakville Video Store, and a safe with a small amount of money from a home on Route 611.

The family members of the late Mr. and Mrs. Luther Harris met at Granny Bee’s Restaurant in Appomattox on Sunday for their reunion.

Appomattox added to gypsy moth quarantine list

Appomattox was added to the list of Virginia localities under quarantine for the gypsy moth, who in their caterpillar stage defoliate huge amounts of forest.
