Lucado wins Poultry Division at fair
Joan Lucado, of Appomattox High School, had the top entry in the Poultry Division of the 1962 Five County Fair, which was the largest in the fair’s history. She also won three other ribbons for her Rhode Island Red pullet, hen and young hen.

Fire at Armstrong plant causes brief shutdown
A fire in one of Virginia Power Company’s transformers caused a problem in one of the air makeup units of Armstrong Furniture. There were no injuries and Armstrong’s plant sustained no damage.

Jones to open antique car museum
Appomattox businessman Fred Jones, age 68, is fulfilling his dream of opening up an antique car museum that will be located in a 20,000-square-foot facility beside A.J. Skateworld on State Route 26.
