Girls fall short in defensive battle with Knights

The Appomattox Raiders varsity girls basketball team nearly pulled off its first victory of the 2021-22 season but fell just a bit short in a 26-22 defensive battle to the undefeated Buckingham Knights (7-0) on Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Appomattox County High School.

The Raiders (0-7) committed three early turnovers in quarter one before settling down into the flow of the game. After Georgia Mills awarded Appomattox a possession by forcing a tie-up, center Macee Hargis scored and was fouled on an inside layup with an assist from Harmony Troxler. Hargis hit the free throw for a 5-4 lead.

The Raiders upped the score to 9-4 with two more low post scores, a short shot by Troxler and a layup on a nice inside move by Hargis.
