Gleaning for the World holds golf tournament in Appomattox

This afternoon the rain has held off long enough for Gleaning for the World's Inaugural Golf Classic tournament to take place at Falling River Country Club in Appomattox.

The tournament, which is being held from 1-6 p.m., benefits Gleaning for the World's charity efforts as they continue to assist people locally and out of state in times of need and in natural disaster relief.

Sixty-four golfers, in teams of four each, registered to play. Prizes will be given to the first and second place teams with the best scores.

The Classic also features the "Closest to the Pin" award as well as a "$10,000 Hole in One" award (if anyone is fortunate to get a hole in one shot).

Prize winners will be announced at the closing of the tournament.

A number of local and area businesses sponsored the event, including Virginia MetalFab, Mills Heating and Air, Dodson Pest Control, Robinson Funeral Home, and others.
