On Friday, senior Appomattox County High School (ACHS) Raiders track and field student-athlete Nadiyah Abdussalaam signed a scholarship offer from Concord University in Athens, W.V.
The partial athletic scholarship to the Division II school fulfills a dream Abdussalaam has held since she began running in sixth grade.
“This is everything that I’ve wanted. It’s really nice, feels good,” she said.
Abdussalaam’s inspiration to participate in track and field was her mother, Angela Marshall, who is part of a Raider team that set the school 4x100-meter relay record around the turn of the 21st Century. Abdussalaam and her 2021-22 relay teammates Amyah Bolar, Kelsey Hackett and Harmony Troxler, that won the VHSL Class 2 state championship in the indoor 4x100 meters and outdoor 4x200 meters, attempted to break that record.
