Just before 9:30 a.m. today, the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD) was dispatched along with the Appomattox County Rescue Squad (ACRS) and Concord Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) for a "commercial structure fire" at Walmart in Appomattox.

Engine 3 arrived and investigated finding a small electrical fire in an appliance. No structural damage occurred, and all customers and associates evacuated safely.

Units operating on scene were AVFD Engine 2, Engine 3 and Ladder 7. The Appomattox County Sheriff's Office, CVFD and ACRS were returned to service.

AVFD thanked the Appomattox Walmart staff for safely facilitating the evacuation of customers and associates.
