Thirty-five years ago, back in New Jersey, trout was the number one fish to fish for. At the time, I dreamt, ate, slept and fished for trout. This was going to be the last stocking for trout that year. In the beginning of the season, the legal limit was eight trout per day. In the last four weeks of the trout season, the legal limit dropped down to six per day.

Roger and I fished and hunted together, and we fished together a lot. He wanted to catch as many trout as he could. In New Jersey, the state had certain days they stocked certain streams and rivers. The fishing of the stocked waters would be closed from 12 a.m. that night, and that evening it would be open to fishing at 5 p.m. It was like opening day for eight straight weeks! You couldn’t beat it.
