Raiders wrestling season is a wrap

John Martin of the Appomattox Raiders wrestling team earned a second place finish in the 126-pound weight division in last weekend’s VHSL Class 1, 2, and 3 State Wrestling Championships at the Salem Civic Center.

Martin won three matches before losing a major decision (13-5) to Elijah Moshenek of Dan River in the championship round.

On the way to the final match, Martin defeated Carlos Lopez of Nandua (Fall 1:43), Anakin Burks of Strasburg (Fall 4:32) and Johnathan Almany of John Battle (Decision 12-10).

The Raiders finished in a 13th place tie with Patrick County in the Class 2 rankings with 46 team points. Martin contributed 22 points for the Raiders.

Poquoson was the Class 2 winner with 140 team points.
