The upcoming summer school program was one of the topics discussed at the March 25 meeting of the Appomattox County School Board.

Dr. Annette Bennett, superintendent of Appomattox County Public Schools (ACPS), said the school district is expecting its largest ever attendance in the program, largely due to some students having problems adjusting to the virtual learning system that was prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent mandates by Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam on public gatherings.

Mary Sherry, ACPS director of student services, addressed the school board about current plans for in-person summer learning sessions. For starters, Sherry expressed her gratitude to school staff members who have committed to working with the students.
