For the first time, the Town of Appomattox has a full-time director of human resources. Nickcole Maynard-Errami, a North Carolina native who most recently worked at Sweet Briar College and Randolph College, has been on the job since May 13.
According to Maynard-Errami, the Town of Appomattox has operated in the past under a decentralized human resources system, and so fellow employees are glad to have her on board.
“The employees are what rallied for this position, which is kind of amazing,” she said. “The employees are the ones who went to management and said, ‘We need this, we want to do things right, there’s so may laws and so many compliance things.’ What a gift to come into an organization where the employees are excited, so that’s been amazing. I just hope to serve the employees well so that we can serve the citizens of Appomattox, because that’s what we’re here to do and we wanna do that with excellence.”
Born and raised Hickory, N.C., Maynard-Errami graduated high school from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, N.C. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree at Appalachian State and a Bachelor’s in Sociology and Master’s in Public Administration at North Carolina State. Her internships were through the Disney College Program in Orlando, Fla. and with the City of Hickory.
As a little girl, Maynard-Errami dreamed of becoming a lawyer but her first job at age 14 was assisting at a veterinarian’s office.
