Early this morning a fire broke out at a residential home on the 3000 block of Trent Hatchery Road in Appomattox. According to most recent reports, the family is displaced and a pet was missing.

Just after 7 a.m., the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD), Appomattox County Rescue Squad and Pamplin Volunteer Fire Department (PVFD) responded to the reported structure fire.
Crews arrived on scene and found fire and smoke showing from the front of the home. Fire crews found that the fire had extended to the second floor and roof of the home. Crews worked to extinguish the fire and check for extension into the rest of the home.
Reportedly, the fire began in the living room area but Appomattox Fire Chief Jonathan Garrett said the direct cause is not known at this time.
One of the residents was injured but was treated and released by EMS on scene. The Appomattox County Sheriff's Office also assisted at the scene.
Red Cross is assisting the family. Appomattox Community & Disaster Relief also offered assistance.
Units on scene were AVFD (Engine 1, Engine 3, Ladder 1, Tanker 1), Appomattox County Rescue Squad, PVFD (Engine 31, Engine 32), Appomattox County Sheriffs Office and Central Virginia Electric Cooperative.
