Today at approximately 3 p.m. the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call regarding a kitchen fire at 102 Trent Hatchery Road.
Several smoke detectors had gone off at the home. As it turned out, a pot of food cooking on the kitchen stove overheated but no damage was done to the kitchen. Fire crews left the side door open to allow the smoke to clear.
Fire Chief Jonathan Garrett said that, fortunately, crews were able to arrive at the private residence and turn off a breaker to shut off all electric power in the home before any damage was done. No water from fire trucks was needed in the incident.
There were no injuries as a result of the incident.
Arriving at the scene were AVFD Engine 3, Ladder 7 and Tanker 5.
