The Appomattox County Courthouse on Court Street has undertaken several changes in public procedure recently, mostly to better deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Anyone who enters the building’s main entrance must first press a button on the new intercom system to alert security desk personnel of their arrival.
In the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office, windows have been installed at the reception area to place a barrier between visitors and office staff.
In the courtrooms, seating is also set up to keep visitors apart from one another in an effort to prevent spread of the virus.
Another change that isn’t specific to COVID-19 restrictions, but might help the cause nevertheless, is the reconfiguring of the metal detection area beside the security desk in the front lobby.
