Marvin Lamonte Ferguson, 37, of Appomattox, pleaded guilty to six charges connected to several robberies of the J. Robert Jamerson Memorial Library on Main Street, Appomattox, in October 2021
At the time of the night time break-in robberies, evidence states, Ferguson had been doing community service at the library. Diana Harvey, the library’s director, had twice noticed money missing from her office and installed a mini security camera. From her home camera connection, she was able to see a man fitting Ferguson’s description going through the drawers in the office at 7:30 p.m.
Deputies from the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the library, but Ferguson was not there. He was located in a nearby parking lot and confessed to stealing cash. He showed deputies where he broke into an unlocked window to enter the library on three prior occasions,
Ferguson stole the money because he was having financial problems, and he expressed remorse when given the chance to speak in court, stating, “I know what I did was wrong. It was stupid.” He added that he should have attempted to find a better solution to his financial issues.
Ferguson is convicted on four felony counts of entering a structure to commit larceny, and four counts of petit larceny less than $1,000.
Sentencing has been scheduled for July 28.
