Options for covering a shortfall in the fiscal year 2025 budget were discussed at the annual closeout meeting of the Appomattox County School Board (ACSB) held June 27.
Jason Tibbs, director of finance and human resources at Appomattox County Public Schools (ACPS), laid out several scenarios that could occur as a result of a recent decision by the Appomattox County Board of Supervisors (BOS) to not grant a request to fund an additional $350,135 to the local matching fund on top of what it had already contributed.
As was reported by the Times Virginian in its June 5 edition, Virginia’s Required Local Effort for ACPS funding for FY 2025 is $5,809,366. The county funded ACPS an amount of $7,286,908, which is $1,477,542 above the required match.
One scenario Tibbs presented is the loss of a state bonus fund amount of roughly $1 million, which could affect one or more school programs.
