The Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department’s (AVFD) request for funding assistance in the purchase of a new fire truck appeared on the Appomattox County Board of Supervisors’ agenda Monday.

Chairman Samuel Carter announced that the county’s public safety committee, consisting of Supervisor Watkins Abbitt and Supervisor William Hogan, needed to conduct some further research prior to making a decision on the matter.

Jonathan Garrett, fire chief of the AVFD and a member of the Appomattox town council, made his request on behalf of the AVFD before the board of supervisors at the May 18 meeting.

The cost for the new vehicle is estimated to be between $600,000 to $650,000. The AVFD’s request to the county is for approximately $360,000.
