A three-vehicle wreck occurred before 5 p.m. today on the 5900 block of Richmond Highway near Police Tower Road in Appomattox County.

According to the Virginia State Police, a blue Honda Odyssey van was traveling westbound on Route 460 and intended to make a turn into the crossover when a white BMW sedan struck the van in the rear. Once the second vehicle came to a stop, a white Toyota Corolla struck the BMW in the rear.

There were no injuries.

The van that was first struck appeared to have traveled down the median embankment until it came to a stop in the grass on the eastbound side of the highway. Due to this, a lane on each side of the highway was shut down.

The back bumper of the van was detached from the vehicle and lodged into the front of the BMW. The front of the Toyota was wedged underneath the back of the BMW, so the vehicles had to be separated so the BMW could be towed.

The investigation is still ongoing, and charges are pending.

In addition to the state police, responding were the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department, Appomattox County Rescue Squad and Delta Response Team.

Bakers Towing towed the BMW, PG Phelps Garage towed the Toyota, and Donnie’s Towing towed the Honda.
