The Appomattox County Animal Shelter plans to reopen its facility Jan. 1 under county management and will remain a no-kill shelter for animals.

To prepare for the reopening, the property at 3074 Morning Star Road needed some TLC (tender loving care) after sitting unused all year. The WoodmenLife Chapter 71 in Appomattox learned of the need, stepped up and completed a service project preparing the exterior of the facility for reopening.

WoodmenLife representatives Rodney Deaner and Allen Austin spearheaded the project.

“Rodney saw the article on the front page of the Times Virginian that the animal shelter was opening back up in January; it was at that time that we had some funds, and so put we it together,” Austin explained.
