On Tuesday, Dec. 5, Appomattox Elementary School (AES) held its annual Cookies with Santa night from 6 to 8 p.m. The kids enjoyed face painting, a 360-video spin, photo booths, candy store, caramel corn, games, coloring sheets, a Santa shop, milk and cookies, a raffle, and photos with Santa. All funds raised are donated to the AES Friendship Memorial Scholarship.

Carolyn Lawson said the AES Friendship Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of Lisa Price, the school nurse who passed away in 2014, and Jada Baker, a student who passed away in 2013. Each year two $500 scholarships are given to two Appomattox County High School seniors. The Lisa Price RN Scholarship is given to a senior pursuing a career in the health field. The Jada Baker Scholarship is given to a student that has experienced some type of medical issue in their life (or someone close to them).
