Emily Rebecca Hubbard, 37, of Lynchburg, is facing animal abuse charges in Appomattox County after a Sept. 13 arrest for violations taking place on the 1100 block of Piney Mountain Road.

Appomattox County Sheriff Barry Letterman said one dog was found dead and 19 others were rescued and taken to the Lynchburg Humane Society. Letterman said the surviving dogs were existing in unfit conditions without food or water. Some of the dogs had visible wounds.

A search warrant was obtained after a complaint came in about a dog acting aggressively on the property. Appomattox County Animal Control and the Appomattox County Sheriff's Office attended to the scene. The Appomattox County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office is handling the case.

Amherst County Detention Center records show that Hubbard is charged with one count of cruelty to animals and 19 counts of torture or mutilation of a dog.

Hubbard is set to appear in Appomattox County General District Court on Oct. 16 at 1 p.m.

Hubbard also has four charges pending in Lynchburg stemming from a March arrest, one for cruelty to animals and three for failure to provide adequate care. A hearing is scheduled for Oct. 8 in Lynchburg Circuit Court in relation to those charges.
