On behalf of the Courtland Festival Park Board of Directors, I would like to express sincerest appreciation for the community’s support of our “Harvey” stew fundraiser this past Saturday at Courtland Park.
Our stew (over 200 quarts) was sold out by 10 a.m., the ingredients were donated, and every penny was a donation to help with park maintenance.
Dr. Paul Harvey shared his passion for Appomattox through supporting the development of Courtland Park, the town’s kiddie park, and the American Civil War Museum ... just to name a few. Although not present, his memory lives through his family and friends, continuing the support.
Dr. Harvey was inspired by his Dad Cliff Harvey, who was known throughout the community with his famous “stew” recipe that has been shared with Appomattox friends for years!
A Harvey sibling, Becky Throckmorton, and her husband Denny, so graciously returns to Appomattox to share the legacy by supporting fundraising events. We are honored that they donated their time to assist local volunteers to prepare the “Harvey” family stew as a fundraiser for our park this year.
Our gratitude is also extended to the Appomattox County Tourism Committee for enhancing the spirit of the holiday season by planning all of these events in the park. The JOY of the season is evident through the smiles on family faces, the children’s laughter and the daily and nightly visitors to Courtland Park ... just to admire and run free under the beauty of the lighted trees or to just sit and gaze.
If you drive through the residential streets of Appomattox, it is evident also that the lighted park has inspired the entire community to mirror the holiday splendor and beauty in their own yards. Appomattox is definitely a “must see” for everyone!
To those who share the same passions and give so freely, I add that your energy and love for life are simply irresistible and that YOU infect everyone with happiness!
Blessings to All,
- , Appomattox County Administrator
