As the Page Turns

January is named for the Roman god Janus, protector of gates and doorways. Janus is depicted with two faces, one looking into the past, the other into the future. Some of the observances in January are: Book Blitz Month, Financial Wellness Month, Hot Tea Month and Soup Month just to name a few.

We have been updating all of our collections and working hard so that 2022 will be a positive and productive one for our patrons. We have also updated our cataloging and patron software, selected a lot of new items (and lots of donated items, too), added more programs, and have improved our existing ones. We look forward to this new year and the challenges that it brings. We hope you make coming to the library a part of your New Year’s resolution!

Don’t forget to stop by the library to take a chance on the Jamerson Library’s SHOUT OUT TO SCOUT free raffle. Who or what is Scout? Scout is the cute TLC (The Library Cooperation) puppy mascot that you could win along with a tin of butter cookies and a bag of candy. This raffle is open to everyone, one chance per person, per visit, please. Winner is to be announced on Friday, Jan. 28. You do not need to be present to win.

For the Wednesday, Dec. 29, Preschool Story & Craft Time, an ACLA (Appomattox County Library Association) volunteer read the book, “If Winter Comes, Tell It I’m Not Here” by Simona Ciraolo. The library has received a very positive response from expanding to two Story & Craft time hours. Going forward, we will continue to host two Story & Craft Times, at 11 a.m. and noon, with crafts and snacks to follow. Everyone is welcome to attend with the understanding that this program is done at a preschool level.

Starting your spring cleaning early? The library would like to remind patrons that we accept donations of books, magazines and DVDs with the understanding that if we can’t use these items they will be placed into ACLA’s (Appomattox County Library Association) book sale, passed on to another organization, or disposed of, according to library guidelines.

If you have any questions or concerns about this article or other library-related topics please feel free to call us during normal business hours at 434-352-5340.
