Raiderettes romp Generals
In the opening game of the Appomattox Raiderettes girls basketball season they traveled to William Campbell to claim victory over the Generals 66-20. The Raiderettes executed the proper techniques of basketball and scored 56 percent of their shots from the floor and 53 percent from the foul line. The high scorer for the Raiderettes was Maryjane Smith, who had 21 points.

Unofficial winner for bypass project bid named
Donna St. Clair of the Virginia Department of Transportation said that English Construction Company of Altavista was the apparent low bidder for the U.S. 460 Appomattox Bypass project. The bid came in at $14,547,521.85.
ACHS selected for scholarship
Appomattox County High School was selected as one of 51 schools in the United States — one in each state and the District of Columbia — to host a Horatio Alger Youth Seminar and to have one senior selected to receive a $5,000 scholarship.

Local doctors get new home
Appomattox Family Practice Center opened a brand new 10,000 square foot office that offers better lighting, a comfortable waiting room, better patient flow and two emergency rooms. The office’s doctors were John Hoffman, Kenneth Powell, Tom Schalcosky and Kim Wright.
