Old mill becomes museum

Mrs. Mary E. Turner, of Santa Barbara, Cal., invited visitors to tour an old mill at Spring Mill in Appomattox to show how flour and corn meal were processed. Also on display is old saw mill equipment, hand-made tools and other items. The mill, on Route 604 in southwest Appomattox County, is located on Falling River and was built in 1880 on foundations of an even older mill.

Dixie queen crowned

Shana Mayberry was crowned as the 1992 Dixie Youth Minor League Queen during closing ceremonies at the Woodmen of the World Ball Park. Mayberry represented the Dodgers team.

Senior FFA team places first in state

The Appomattox Senior FFA Chapter’s Agriculture Science and Mechanics Team placed first in the state among 16 teams in the 71st annual convention of the Virginia Association of FFA at Virginia Tech.
