The Appomattox Raiders boys varsity basketball team obtained its first win of the 2021-22 season Friday night in their first home game against the Dan River Wildcats by a score of 62-47.
The Wildcats only suited up six players for the game, leaving them with a marked disadvantage in manpower for the night. However, they managed to keep the score close against the Raiders’ 13-man squad with a 23-22 lead at halftime and taking a 31-28 lead in the third quarter.
Down 28-26, Dorian Griffith connected on a three-pointer to give the Wildcats a 29-28 lead before Darius Dickerson scored two points on a fast break for the three-point lead.
Appomattox went on an eight-point run, starting with Ervis Davin’s coast-to-coast layup off of a missed shot by Dickerson. Devon Redd gave the Raiders the 32-31 lead on a short jump shot — a lead they would never relinquish.
