On Friday night, the Appomattox Raiders varsity and JV girls basketball teams accomplished a sweep of the Heritage Pioneers at Appomattox County High School.
The varsity Raiders (3-3) capped off the night with a dominant 34-17 win, led by a defense that created 15 steals. Cari Vrooman was a force on offense with 12 points to lead the Raiders.
The JV Raiders opened the night by defeating Heritage 21-20 in a game that went down to the wire. Georgia Mills scored what proved to be the winning points for Appomattox on a layup after a steal and assist by teammate Bailey Hamilton for a 21-18 lead. Heritage responded with an uncontested layup with time running out on the clock, but didn't have time for another legitimate shot attempt.
Tonight's Appomattox boys (home) and girls (away) basketball games against William Campbell are canceled because schools are closed due to winter weather. Appomattox County High School Athletic Director Chris Dodge said the games may not be rescheduled.
Dodge also announced that Wednesday's games against Brookville have been canceled because Brookville needs to make up a game that night on their Seminole District schedule. Those games will not be rescheduled.
