In the March 15 opening game of the 2023 softball season, the Amherst Lancers put the works on the Appomattox Raiders by a score of 10-0. That game was played at Amherst, which is a Class 4 school in the Seminole District, and broke the two-time defending Class 2 state champion Raiders' 40-game winning streak that encompassed the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

On Monday night, April 3, Appomattox welcomed Amherst to their own ball park for a rematch. In a testament to the steady improvement of this season's revamped lineup, the Raiders won their fifth straight game since the season opener by defeating the Lancers on a two-run walk-off home run by Haleigh Tweedy in the bottom of the seventh inning.

On April 6, Appomattox hosted Dogwood District rival Dan River and the Raiders’ offensive power surge was on display in a 12-1 win that was called after the top of the fifth inning due to the Mercy Rule.

Appomattox belted two home runs during the game. In the first inning, Aubrey Fulcher hit a solo shot to left field, and Myah Kelso slammed a two-RBI blast for a 3-0 lead. Carrington Moore’s single drove in Sydney Bryant to go up 4-0.

Appomattox (6-1) is scheduled to play Saturday tournament at Brookville High School in Lynchburg during spring break weekend. First game begins at 10 a.m. They return to regular season action with an April 21 home game against Gretna at 5:30 p.m.
