Appomattox FFA competes at Southeast Rally, achieves multiple high marks

On Wednesday, March 9, students from across the Southeast Area of Virginia gathered together at Southside Community College in Keysville to compete in the FFA Southeast Area Rally. Representing Appomattox County High School, 19 students competed in a total of eight Leadership and Career Development Events.

That morning, students Braelyn Floyd, Larken Harris, Austin Hodge, Savannah Jones, and Emily Thompson represented ACHS in the Veterinary Science Career Development Event (CDE). Participants were required to identify over 250 breeds of animals, veterinary equipment, and parasites, as well as complete a written exam and calculate veterinary mathematical problems. The team of Floyd, Harris, Hodge, and Thompson placed 2nd overall in the event. Hodge was the 2nd high individual. The team will go on to represent Appomattox at the state contest in June.

ACHS Freshman Savannah Jones participated in the Creed Speaking Leadership Development Event (LDE). Jones memorized the FFA creed, presented it to a panel of judges and answered questions about the speech. She did an excellent job and placed 1st. Jones has qualified to represent the Southeast Area FFA chapters at the state event in June.
