On the weekend of April 8-9, the American Civil War Museum (ACWM) in Appomattox will be hosting the Commemoration of the Surrender and Freedom Day American Civil War Museum event.
The event will honor the town’s history, bring families together, and will bring in a large group of volunteers and attendees from many different states and regions.
First, the museum is hosting this annual event to honor Appomattox’s history.
“Commemoration of the surrender and the freedom of enslaved people are a vital part of the history explored by the American Civil War Museum, and, with Gen. Lee’s surrender, Appomattox is where the nation began to reunite,” said Director of Marketing and Public Relations at the ACWM Jeniffer Maloney.
This event has much more significance than just high historical meaning to the Town of Appomattox and Appomattox County, as the state and the nation were both affected by General Robert E. Lee’s Surrender.
The museum wants to honor this history and realize the historical significance of this event.
