Now back to their traditional fall schedule after one very short golf season in the spring of 2021, the Appomattox Raiders golf team has already began playing tournaments. The team last played in the spring of this year due to the VHSL’s maneuvering sports seasons in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.
The golf season usually begins before the start of school classes in August to play in the better weather conditions before the fall elements set in and the sun goes down earlier in the evening.
Thus far, the Raiders have played tournaments on Aug. 2 and 4. The season began with a bit of a rough outing at The John Schoot Invitational, which was played at London Downs Golf Club in New London, just outside of Lynchburg. On a par 72 event, the Raiders shot a 396.
