Appomattox Middle School baseball and softball players, who have been playing on club teams, will now be officially affiliated with the school thanks to approval from the Appomattox County School Board during several recent meetings. Affiliation begins in the upcoming 2023-24 academic year.

The benefit of playing as an affiliated team is having the ability to schedule more games with other schools in the area that are already affiliated.

Ray Perkins, representing the baseball program during a March 30 meeting, recently told the school board that many other districts have decided to pick up expenses for middle school teams and are therefore unwilling to schedule games against teams with no official school affiliation. Perkins surmised that insurance complications may be the primary factor involved in those scheduling decisions.
