The Appomattox Raiders girls soccer team remains atop the Dogwood District standings (6-0, 10-0 overall) after a clean sweep of three games last week, which included wins over Altavista at home Monday (5-1), at Dan River on Wednesday (8-0) and at Nelson County on Friday (4-0).

The team’s two leading goal scorers, Lyndsey Lawson and Catey Paulette, were at it again at Dan River. Lawson, who leads the Raiders with 25 goals this season, popped four shots into the net. Paulette, who has 17 goals and leads the team with 22assists, added three. Alexa McNamara, who is third with 12 goals, also scored for the Raiders.

Appomattox recorded 22 shots on goal, compared to only one by Dan River, according to the stat line — a testament to a stellar effort by the Raider defense, whose performance was dubbed as a “steel curtain” by assistant coach Marcus Carter on the team’s Facebook page.

The game against Altavista was ended following the halftime break due to lightning in the area. However, the win was scored as official for Appomattox.
