The Appomattox Raiders girls soccer team dropped a home game against the Chatham Cavaliers by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday, May 4. The game was part of an Appomattox “triple play” with the Raiders’ varsity softball and varsity baseball teams all playing at the same time at Appomattox County High School.

Chatham held a 2-1 lead ay halftime and put up a third goal in the second half to pad their lead at 3-1. Appomattox scored late in the second half to cut the lead to 3-2 but time ran out on the Raiders.

Chatham freshman Delaney Haymore scored two goals for Chatham on two shots, and fellow freshman Ava Norris added the other goal on four shots.

Lyndsey Lawson put in a goal for Appomattox on six shots, and Jillian Williams scored a goal on three shots. Mackenzie Fulcher contributed an assist.

Appomattox recorded 19 total shots, Chatham recorded 11.

The Raiders fell to 6-4-1, and are 2-2 in the Dogwood District. Chatham was 9-2 after the win, 5-0 in the Dogwood.

Up next for the Raiders is a home game tonight against Dan River at 7 p.m. The girls are also scheduled to host Nelson County on Friday at 7 p.m.
