The Appomattox Raiders boys swim team won the Region C Class 1/2 Swimming Championship last Thursday in stunning fashion, as their 4x100 relay team took first place in the last event of the night to give the Raiders their first-ever regional title.

The Raider girls finished fourth overall.

“The boys knew coming into the meet that they really had a chance to do this,” said Appomattox coach Evans Thomas after the meet. “We talked about it all week, and they knew if they swam their best the regional title was within their grasp.”

“I knew that the whole meet had come down to that [4x100] relay,” said senior Charlie Drinkard, the anchor-leg swimmer. “We went out there to smoke every team in the water.”
