It didn't take long. During the first week of the regular season schedule for most fall season athletic teams of Appomattox County High School, several events have already been canceled due to COVID concerns.
ACHS Athletic Director Chris Dodge said in an email that the Raiders volleyball matches for tonight against Amherst, both varsity and JV, have been postponed. The Amherst high school and middle school are in quarantine because of COVID protocols. Attempts to reschedule the games are underway.
As was announced last Friday, the Raiders varsity game against Buckingham has been canceled. The Knights' football program is not playing due to positive COVID cases. Raiders head coach Doug Smith said yesterday that the two schools are hoping to reschedule as well.
As of this moment, the Raiders varsity football team's next scheduled opponent is Rustburg next Friday at 7 p.m. in Appomattox. The Raiders volleyball team is slated to play at Buckingham on Aug. 31 at 5:30 p.m. and at home versus LCA on Sept. 2, also at 5:30 p.m.
The Raiders varsity volleyball team won its regular season opener Tuesday night at LCA, 3 sets to 1. The JV team also defeated LCA, 2 sets to 1.
