According to Appomattox County Fire Department Chief Jonathan Garrett, the multi-vehicle accident on Thursday involved four vehicles, and several patients were transported to the local hospital.
Their condition has not been disclosed at this time.
Garrett said that the crash was a series of chain reaction events. A vehicle was disabled on the shoulder of U.S. Route 460 near Police Tower Road after being involved in a crash. Another vehicle slowed dow to avoid the first accident and was involved in another wreck.
The highway was reduced to one lane following the incident.
Multiple attempts to contact Virginia State Police Trooper M.A. Wilkinson, who responded to the incident, have been unsuccessful as of this report.
At least three vehicles were involved in a motor vehicle accident during rainy weather around noon today on U.S. Route 460 near Police Tower Road in Appomattox County.

Earlier today, the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department warned drivers to be safe during heavy rain.
Attempts to contact the state police trooper who responded to the incident have been unsuccessful as of this report.
