For the second year in a row, the Lynchburg Humane Society will open its doors Thanksgiving evening for families to visit and walk their adoptable pets. The Center for Pets will be open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will have a “spin the wheel” adoption special that will run through Black Friday, Nov. 29.

“This is a great chance for families to come into our center, grab a leash, and walk off their dinner, while giving our dogs some exercise and attention, too,” said Kayleigh Raposa, behavior and training manager.

“Last year we had a lot of families come and take a pet home for the holiday weekend, and we even had eight adoptions,” said Jill Mollohan, associate director. “We have a great program where you can take a pet out for the afternoon, or even for a sleepover, and we will give you all the supplies needed. It’s called our Petcation Program, and it’s a great way to see how a pet does in your home before you commit to adopting, or even just give a pet a break from the shelter.”
