In a brief workshop meeting on Tuesday, the Appomattox Town Council heard reports on a number of going and upcoming projects and matters.

Mixed Zoning Ordinance

In response to numerous calls from members of the community, town staff is working on a draft of an ordinance to allow mixed zoning. Specifically, it would allow for loft apartments to be set up above businesses. Town hall has fielded numerous requests from the community about making such an option possible.

The proposed ordinance would likely require that the residential spaces meet all regulations, including fire escapes and current fire code. Architectural drawings would likely be required, as well. Residents of the lofts would have to be provided with parking spaces; a figure of one parking space per bedroom has been suggested.
