A letter from the Appomattox County administrator to the Appomattox town manager and council stirred deep-rooted frustrations for the council members at Monday’s regular monthly meeting.
Complicating the issue was the council members’ loyalty to the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD) and frustration about the county board of supervisors’ handling of certain financial matters.
The letter was a request for the county and town to split 50-50 a funding request from the AVFD for the purchase of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA, also referred to throughout the meeting as air packs), the devices that firefighters use for breathing when entering a burning building.
