The status on the Appomattox Depot and Main Street projects, among other topics, were discussed at the Appomattox Town Council’s workshop meeting Jan. 24.

Appomattox Facilities Manager Jeff Elder said that brand new benches will be added to the Main Street area. These will replace the wooden ones with metal benches that are easier to clean and maintain.

The cost for three benches is $2,993.13, but, Elder said, the town will pay $5,513.10 for six benches. He asked the council if he could take the $5,000-plus funds from another fund — repairs and maintenance — he’d added for shrubbery.
