Funds are now being raised to purchase a tiny home for a 72-year-old Appomattox County man whose lifelong home on Piney Mountain Road was destroyed by a chimney fire in April.
Grover Hall, who had resided at the Oakville residence since birth, was awake shortly after 5 a.m. when he noticed a fire in the kitchen. Hall said he is fortunate to have been awake at the time.
The home was uninsured, and Hall suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Hall is currently residing with a friend in the Town of Appomattox.
Herbert Hamlett, an Evergreen resident who attends Liberty Baptist Church in Appomattox, is spearheading the fundraising effort to purchase a 12x32 shed and renovate it into a tiny home with the help of volunteers and contractors.
Hamlett volunteers with the Disaster and Relief Rebuild through the Southern Baptist organization, and is also involved with the Compassion Ministry at Liberty Baptist Church.
Estimated cost of the shed is $10,000, plus another $10,000 for renovations.
As Hamlett stated in a fundraising letter, all funds will go to Liberty Baptist Church, designated for this project and distributed as needed with proof of receipts.
For those who wish to contribute, checks should be made payable to Liberty Baptist Church and designated for Grover Hall's House. Make checks payable to Liberty Baptist Church, 1709 Church Street, Appomattox, VA 24522.
To give electronically, go to www.libertybconline.org and select Give. Select Compassion Ministry and add Grover Hall in the memo line. Or text LBCAPPO to 73256 and select Compassion Ministry and add Grover Hall in the memo.
