First responders and family members pose for a picture at Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department with shoeboxes all packed up and ready for children around the world through Operation Christmas Child.

First responders gathered last Thursday evening at the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department to fill 50 shoeboxes with items such as toys, hygiene products, school supplies and handwritten notes.

The rainy evening was filled with camaraderie and smiles as they labored with loved ones to brings these gifts together. Despite the rain, the fires of energy were not extinguished as could be seen in the busy room.

These shoeboxes were to be dropped off at Liberty Baptist Church this week. From there, the shoeboxes will be taken to a facility and processed for shipment to children around the world.

The idea for an evening of shoebox packing appeared to be well-received by the first responders.
