A recent analysis by financial technology company SmartAsset finds where people are getting the most mileage out of Social Security.

This study measures Social Security income, cost of living data and taxes across all counties to determine where retirees are getting the most Social Security. According to the study Appomattox County ranked among the top spots in Virginia.

Appomattox County ranked 10th with estimated average annual cost of living expenses at $19,529 and annual average Social Security income of $20,555 for an index rating of 80.37. 

Boutetort County ranked first on the list with an annual average cost of living at $19,845 and annual Social Security income of $22,800 and an index rating of 88.23. 

Ranked second through ninth are the counties of Highland, Franklin, Northumberland, Nelson, Craig, Roanoke, Bedford and Giles.
