Expectant moms and moms of newborns came together on Aug. 5 for a Community Baby Shower organized by the Central Virginia Health District (CVDH) and held at Appomattox Inn & Suites.

The purpose of the Community Baby Shower program is to ensure that mothers of young babies have necessary supplies to care for their children, as well as gathering feedback for the CVHD to better serve mothers in the community.

“Not only are we providing the moms with lots of things like diaper caddies, diapers, wipes, and things like that, we’re also collecting information by asking them a series of questions in a focus group-type environment so that we can collect that data, so we can hear how pregnant moms and postpartum moms — just so we can hear about their experience — and we’re gonna take that information and give it back to community partners such as Horizon (Behavioral Health) and Johnson Health Center,” said CVHD Community Engagement Specialist Megan Harris, who led the Appomattox gathering.

The Community Baby Shower program is in its first year of existence. CVHD received grants to assist in funding the events, which are held in various Central Virginia locations.
