Scruggs Family Farm in Appomattox County hosted U.S. Senator Tim Kaine for a Meet & Greet event Monday afternoon as he wrapped up a five-day campaign tour that began at Smith Mountain Lake.
The event attracted approximately 77 attendees to the quaint, plush farm. The gathering was organized by Ora McCoy, who was born at the house on the property where she still resides.
“This farm has been in the Scruggs family for five generations, and my son and I, we try to keep the legacy alive,” McCoy said to those in attendance.
McCoy is chair of the Carver-Price Legacy Museum Board of Directors. The museum honors the former African American school in Appomattox.
Along with Kaine, other political figures in attendance were Richmond Mayor Lavar Stoney, Democrat U.S. Congressional candidate Gloria Witt, and Lynchburg City Council candidate Rev. James Coleman. All spent a few minutes speaking to attendees in support of Kaine.
Kaine, who is running for his third term as U.S. Senator representing Virginia, served as the state’s governor from 2016-2010. He is opposed in the 2024 Senate race by Republican Hung Cao, who won Virginia’s primary election in June.
