Appomattox County Sheriff Donald Simpson and Major Richardson help Shirley Wheeler and the Missionary Food Bank to serve the community of Appomattox.

With schools closed down due to COVID-19, Appomattox County Sheriff Donald Simpson found a new project for the county’s school resource officers in picking up groceries or prescriptions and delivering them to at-risk and elderly citizens. The program was started before any COVID-19 cases were reported in the county.

Sergeant Karen Nipper, who oversees the officers, has sat at the helm of the project in a collaborative effort with other community partners to meet various needs.

Of course, Nipper adds, the officers all operate in a safety-conscious manner to accommodate for social distancing.
